Close links to the sea
As well as being a world-class shipping port and one of the country's leading commercial dockyards, Southampton is the cruise capital of Europe.

Vibrant waterfront
The city plays host to the annual ten-day Southampton Boat Show in September and a huge annual Sea City festival from April to October.

Past and future
'Waverley', the last sea-going paddle steamer in the world, makes trips to Southampton. Cunard's new liner, 'Queen Victoria', was named there in December 2006.

Culture vultures' choice
This city is home to some of the region's best concert halls and venues, boasting three outstanding art galleries and two magnificent theatres. There are five museums, too.

Green, greener, greenest...
This is claimed to be the greenest city in Southern England, with seven formal Grade II listed parks.

Historical gem
The Old Town, one of the great gems
of England, attracted the attention of William the Conqueror, Henry V, William Shakespeare, the Pilgrim Fathers, Isaac Watts and Jane Austen.

Having just moved in to our new park home 12 miles from Southampton. (in Winchester). We have found the Monthly magazine very interesting and helpful. All Parks featured in the article along with the surrounding area location reports are very accurate. We are lucky to have had knowledge of the area before we moved there, Hampshire has so much to offer espically when you are looking to slow your pace of life, the public transport is excellent, we didnt realise that .there is so much on our doorstep to see and do as well of course as spending our quality time together
