Oxford park home estates, essential city info plus reasons to make the move

View the Oxford gallery

Unrivalled history
Millions flock to historic Oxford for its famous university, which dominates the city. Its colleges, some of which date back 900 years, shape the city.

Art and culture
It's not just the university that attracts people. Its impressive collection of theatres, cinemas, art galleries, museums and libraries will take you years to explore.

Close to London
Whether you take the coach, the train or jump in the car, Oxford is under an hour away from the bright lights of the capital.

Reliable public transport
An excellent bus service and park-and-ride scheme takes the hassle out of commuting and shopping.

Beautiful Cotswold countryside
A designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Cotswolds are within easy reach of the city's dreaming spires.

Improving healthcare
Oxford City Primary Care Trust spends £179 million a year on healthcare. More than £40 million has been invested in three city health centres and the Primary Care Trust wants planning permission for new, purpose-built health facilities in central Oxford by 2012.

Dining out
You'll be spoilt for choice with places to eat and drink. Oxford was recently nominated the sixth best place in country to dine in The Which? Good Food Guide 2007. Eleven restaurants came in for special praise.

Crime rates
These figures decrease significantly out of town. Crime statistics are per 1,000 of the population within the local authority area.
Oxford currently has seven burglaries per 1,000 of the population against an English average of 6.4.
Thefts of motor vehicles stand at 5 per 1,000. The average in England is 4.5.

Access to London
Oxford's congested city centre is notorious. For a quick and hassle-free journey to or from London take the coach. The Oxford Tube (actually a bus!) runs every 10 to 15 minutes, 24 hours a day. An adult day return costs £17. Direct trains run to London Paddington and the journey takes just under an hour.
